Chemical incident following an accidental manipulation of 2 chemicals, on 08/10/21 in Haute-Vienne.
During an operation to evacuate old chemical product drums at a tannery, 2 substances mixed, causing a chemical reaction, an explosion, and the release of "strong-smelling gas"
The SDIS 87 took charge of managing the incident, with the presence of Chemical Risk intervention units. No injuries were reported.
An analysis is now underway.
“It's a rare accident following a manipulation that was precisely aimed at extracting these old drums from the factory. We do not know which products were involved as the labels are too faded” according to the company's management.
Given the unusual nature of the task, it would have been even more important to conduct a risk analysis before proceeding. The Work Permit allows for formalizing this analysis. The person filling out this document must also be trained by the company to ensure the method and comprehensiveness of the actions to be implemented.
The Work Permit is a major tool in Occupational Risk Prevention, mainly for tasks performed internally. It complements the Prevention Plan (a regulatory element, if it needs reminding!) and the Fire Permit.
We support you in drafting and implementing various safety documents as well as in training your teams.
